How do you get rid of cellulite? Can you get rid of cellulite? These are two questions that many disillusioned women ask themselves because they have tried time and again to get rid of that dimply fat that covers their lower body.
I used to be one of them.
But why disillusioned? Because they are so many ineffective “treatments” that many women have already gone through a chronic cycle of high hopes followed by disappointing defeat.
And every time you try something that doesn’t work, the sense of hopelessness gets stronger.
So how do you get rid of cellulite once and for all? With a specialized exercise and diet routine.
Let me show you how.
Eliminating The Root Of The Problem
The bottom line is that cellulite is the accumulation of uneven layers of fat in between muscle and skin in your lower body.
Thus, the most effective approach will burn off the dimply fat while simultaneously making your lower body muscles as smooth and toned as possible.
Focusing on both these objectives in parallel will give you the best results.
But can you really get rid of cellulite by burning fat and toning muscle? Absolutely. The key here, however, is to not follow a generic fitness program or you will end up disillusioned yet again.
Instead, you have to follow a specialized approach that in addition to burning off cellulite fat, also targets every single muscle in your lower body.
The best way to accomplish the latter is with stability training. This type of training creates an unstable environment that forces all of those hard to reach areas to get toned.
And remember that cellulite is not caused by the build of alleged toxins in your lower body. It’s simply fat, just like fat on any other area of your body.
Training The Right Way
So if a regular fitness program won’t work, what will? A program that targets your entire body with circuit training and incorporates stability training for your lower body.
The circuit training will burn a lot of calories, restore hormonal balance and reduce the amount of time you have to spend exercising.
Stay away from body building routines where you exercise one muscle per day.
Hormonal balance? Yes, another cause of cellulite is excess estrogen – a fat storing hormone. Circuit training with weights will allow you to stabilize your levels of estrogen so you can get rid of cellulite faster.
For the best results, make sure you do two to three workouts per week and get plenty of rest between each session.
And if you have time for more than three workouts per week, you can also do some cardiovascular exercise. This will burn extra calories and increase circulation. Poor micro-circulation is a contributing factor to the accumulation of cellulite.
Just follow these three rules:
- Never do a cardiovascular session right before a circuit training session
- Never let a cardiovascular session last more than 45 minutes
- Never do more than 5 cardiovascular sessions per week
- Don’t assume you have to do high intensity cardio all the time
Doing too much high intensity cardio can interfere with your results from circuit training. So do a mix of different intensities here and listen to your body.
Now there is an abundance of information on effective total body exercises, so I won’t go into detail about them here.
But there is less information on how to effectively use stabilization training for the reduction of cellulite. In a nutshell, you have to exercise your lower body (legs and butt) from as many angles as possible with as much instability as possible.
Obviously, you need to slowly progress into this type of training so you don’t get injured. And it’s well worth it because you will be able to tone and “smooth out” all those obscure muscles in your legs and butt that generic exercises can’t reach.
Here is a great stability exercise for beginners:
Eating The Right Way
To burn the most fat possible, you also have to modify your eating patterns. Otherwise, you might end up doing a bunch of exercise only to notice that there is still lingering cellulite.
But there are so many diets out there, how are you supposed to choose the right one?
Forget about all the gimmicks, exotic nutrients and hype. Your diet only has to accomplish two things:
- Lower blood sugar
- A caloric deficit
The best way to achieve both of these is with a balanced diet that has a system of portion control.
The balance will lower your blood sugar and make it easier to maintain a caloric deficit. And the portion control will ensure that you are actually in a caloric deficit.
This is critical because many women never enter a caloric deficit. And if you are eating more calories than you burn, the fat will never ever go away.
Portion control is an essential tool for fighting “caloric creep.” A situation where hidden calories enter your diet and you have no idea where they are coming from because you are winging it.
Now a great way to control portion sizes is with the palms of your hands. As a starting point, have one palm-full of protein and one palm-full of carbs in each meal. Have a tablespoon portion-size of fat and as many vegetables as possible.
Notice that you are balancing your diet with protein, carbs, fat and vegetables. Leave any one of these out of the equation and there are consequences. Not eating fat, for example, will decrease your carbohydrate tolerance and the production of testosterone – a fat burning hormone.
Now if you can’t lose fat with the above portion control method, simply keep a food journal for two weeks and then decrease portion sizes accordingly. But don’t decrease portion sizes too drastically or your metabolism will shut down.
Aim for a 10-15% reduction. Never go over a 25% reduction.
What About All Those Different Treatments For Getting Rid Of Cellulite?
Unfortunately, most skin treatments do not produce results. And the ones that do produce results are temporary.
In fact, a lot of the treatments simply dehydrate your skin and create the temporary illusion of having less cellulite.
You are better off saving your money here and sticking with a long term solution. A solution that will allow you to burn off and keep off the cellulite.
At this point, you should not be asking yourself: “How do you get rid of cellulite?” or “Can you get rid of cellulite?”
